LIGHTING FROM BELOW PHOTOGRAPHY
Images utilising lighting from below are generally created by a hard light source shining underneath.
Most of the images created using this technique add a lot of character to the subjects, more often than not making it look creepy or almost sinister.
I felt like this was most successful with the third image of the owl as the shadows created by it's eyelids and the yellow of the big eyes just add so much personality to the animal even though it is just a statue. There is a also a little bit of texture going on with the grooves for the feathers, making the image more interesting.
This is something that is lacking with the first image. The lighting is still coming from below and it makes the object look really creepy but it's just a bit of a boring image as there isn't really anywhere else to draw your attention to. The neutral colours don't create any great contrast and the focus isn't all that great as it is mainly just the nose area that is sharpened, rather than the entire face.
